From the very beginning, one of the main purposes of the NALF was to gather and publish genealogy information on the Livelys of America. Many Association members had individually recorded their family’s genealogy; others wanted to know more about their genealogy and joined the Association to learn how to research their genealogy. Also, many families were having trouble tracing their roots – the records just didn’t seem to be available.
The Association started collecting these records, with the assistance of Dr. John F. Vallentine, a Lively descendant and professor at Brigham Young University. The Association published its first genealogy book (Livelys of America 1690-1968) in 1971 using the data Dr. Vallentine compiled. The first book contained almost 900 pages of data on America’s Livelys; data that Association members had provided from their personal family records or had researched for the Association and Dr. Vallentine’s research. In 1973 a Supplement to Livelys of America 1972 was published. The Supplement contains mostly corrections or minor additions to the data provided in the first book. In 1982 Alta Lively Marsh and her committee began to compile all the genealogy data that the Association had collected since the first supplement and in 1986 the Second Supplement to Livelys of America 1982 was published. The above publications contain family genealogy data for over 26,000 Livelys.
The latest work the family has completed is the conversion of all three books and all new genealogy material received before 2015 into one searchable USB Drive for purchase.
